We need your help
Board-certified dermatologists have a lot of tools to rejuvenate premature aging, but we need your help provide the best outcomes for reliable cosmetic dermatology. Did you know that the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes? We have a comfortable relaxing environment and cutting edge solutions for rejuvenating your skin, but we cannot follow you around shielding you from the sun. You can help us, and yourself by following our recommendations for protecting yourself and your family from over-exposure to the sun.
- Use sun block
We recommend broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 with zinc oxide. Apply 30 minutes before you go outside, even on cool or cloudy days. Sunscreen wears off easily. Re-apply it every two hours; and after swimming, sweating, or toweling off. Some lip balms contain some of the same chemicals used in sunscreens according to reliable cosmetic dermatology. Use lip balms that are at least SPF 15.
- Always seek shade
You can reduce your risk of skin damage and skin cancer by seeking shade under an umbrella, tree, or other shelter before you need relief from the sun. Your best bet to protect your skin is to use sunscreen or wear protective clothing when you’re outside—even when you’re in the shade.
- Use clothing
It is okay to be style conscious, but remember that it is your health that is most important. Whenever possible, use long-sleeved shirts and long pants or skirts as protection from UV rays. The basic rule of thumb is to use clothing that blocks sunlight such as tightly woven fabrics. Darker colors may offer more protection than lighter colors. If it is too hot to wear this type of clothing, consider the use of umbrellas or other forms of shade. Wear a hat with a brim that shades your face, ears, and the back of your neck.
- Wear sunglasses
Your eyes are vital to your good health and they can also be damaged by sun exposure when it comes to reliable cosmetic dermatology. Sunglasses are the best way to protect your eyes from UV rays, reducing your risk of cataracts. They also protect the sensitive skin around your eyes from sun exposure. Make sure that your sunglasses block both UVA and UVB rays. Most sunglasses sold in the United States, meet this standard. Wrap-around sunglasses are highly recommended because they block UV rays from coming in from the side.
